This Distribution Handbook was developed as part of PAM Factory 2023, initiated by Reso.

Reso is a Swiss national network in the field of professional dance that brings together programmers and organisers from both the independent and institutional scenes. It has over 100 members and aims to strengthen the development of dance as an artistic discipline in Switzerland.

The work of distribution in the performing arts is characterised by uncertainty: sometimes you are lucky and immediately meet a programmer whose artistic profile perfectly matches your company. But in other cases, you send countless emails, most of which go unanswered. A safeguard for distribution work would therefore be welcome.

That is why Reso has developed this Distribution Handbook in collaboration with performing arts producers. This tool can serve as a guide and support you in various situations:

• When is the right time to pitch a new project?
• How can you prepare a tour to reach as many organisations as possible?
• Is it worth attending an event even if your own work is not the centre of attention?

This Distribution Handbook attempts to answer these questions. It provides an overview of the various steps involved in successful distribution work. From the composition of your team and its working structure to the tools that make the work more concrete, including the key resources essential for a successful meeting with a partner/interlocutor.
