Zine handed out to the public during “Walking on the fringes of the digital world”, a walk organised by Doriane Timmermans and Marie Verdeil as part of Feral 2026

Doriane Timmermans and Marie Verdeil curated and organised Walking on the fringes of the digital world during Feral Pirate, 2026 edition of our annual festival during which we explored contemporary practices akin to piracy: hacking, citizen-led initiatives, forms of collective care…

On the second day of the festival, the two artists led a walk from Brussels to the Zaventem’s industrial zoning.

This walk was inspired by a practice of walking to digital infrastructures bordering European cities. This practice allows walkers to investigate and be confronted with the issues theses infrastructures raise.

Today, digital infrastructures such as data centers, are situated at the intersection of a multitude of concerns: local ecosystem disruption and urban planing policy changes; global mineral extractivism and the colonial violences it implies; data-driven surveillance; or AI’s economical operations and mass de-skilling.

This walk brought together story-tellers from various locations, functioning like a collage of oral interventions, in situ exercices, and partipatory documentation.

This zine was designed as a resource for the march and was handed out to the public on the day itself. It also serves as a record of the march, documenting its route and the issues at stake.
