Performative Practices with Ophélie Mac coco from FATSABBATS : Performance as a Space for Emancipation.

Ophélie Mac coco

Ophélie Mac coco is an artist, teacher and lecturer in art schools (La Cambre, ISAC, ERG, 75, PARTS, etc.), social worker and activist. She is the founder and a member of the collective behind the FATSABBATS project, a cultural, inclusive and supportive space set up by and for LGBTQIA+ People of Colour.

The workshop

As part of a 3-year cycle of collaboration between FATSABBATS and Cifas, Ophélie Mac coco brings together the different questions and mediums she uses and offers a workshop on performative practices aimed specifically at People of Colour, giving priority to those that didn’t go to art school. Every module is an independent course within the cycle, no need to have taken part in previous modules to apply for this one.

Performance as a Space for Emancipation

This third session will explore performance as a space for emancipation, where the body becomes a site of knowledge, resistance and invention of new ways of relating to the world.

Throughout the workshop, Ophélie Mac Coco will share tools drawn from her artistic practice and references, encouraging everyone to take calculated risks, listen to their intuitions and develop their own performative style.

Performance fosters gatherings and catharsis. Let us examine our relationships with our beliefs, our intimacy, our limits and our political bodies. Let us create performative spaces for healing, rest and activism. Let us reinvent our forms of resistance, our regeneration, our traditions, our codes, as well as our social and political tools.

The workshop may conclude with a public sharing session or an informal presentation of the research carried out together.
